All About the Dimples of Venus Sexuality

While walking down the beach behind a woman clad in a tiny bikini, you may have noticed twin indentations on her lower back. These same indentations are sometimes visible on men’s lower backs, especially those who are athletic.

Dimples of Venus - Sacroiliac joint

The proper name for the indentations is the Dimples of Venus and they are located where the spine meets the hipbone. They result from connective tissues of the dermis being more tightly bound to a part of the pelvic girdle called the posterior superior iliac spine, thus drawing the skin inward. They are directly superficial to the two sacroiliac joints, the sites where the sacrum attaches to the ilium of the pelvis.

These indentations are sometimes called by other names such as Back Dimples, Pilonidal Dimples, Butt Dimples, Venusian Dimples, Lateral Lumbar Indentation, Fossette DiVenere or Sacral Dimples.  The Latin name for these indentations is Fossae Lumbales Laterales.

The history of the Venusian Dimples and their meaning goes back to that of the Roman goddess of Love and Beauty, Venus. Although they are present in almost everyone, most people would never know the name of these beauty marks even those who have them. Michelangelo christened them Dimples of Venus, when he spotted them on women. He then called them Dimples of Apollo when he spotted them on the backside of an Italian man.

Andre Favory - Bathing_nude

If you look at ancient art, for example in a “bathing nude” painting by André Favory you will notice that the statue strikes a well-proportioned, sexually mature and attractive woman. Her desirability is further enhanced by the presence of the Dimples of Venus. This characteristic is a well-known and widely used marker of physical desirability in art.

The Dimples of Venus are genetic and are passed down to you as part of your own DNA or genetic coding. If you have these dimples, it is quite common that your parents, siblings, and close relatives will also have them and they will look very similar to your own. They appear usually during puberty and more often on the female body than on the male body. This could be attributed to the different average body fat percentages of women and men, making them more prominent on the female body. So, children usually don’t have them and males have them less often than females.

The dimples are created by a person’s individual bone structure, in relation to his or her specific muscle definition and body fat ratio. If there isn’t much underlying muscle, a depression may occur resulting in a back dimple. This type of occurrence can also happen on the chin, the cheeks, the buttocks or any other areas of the human body. The dimple effect occurs naturally on women with slim, athletic figures.

You cannot get them with exercise because they’re located where the two pelvic bones connect, and there’s no muscle in that area. However, in some cases, diet and exercise can make these distinctive dimples seem less or even more noticeable. Change in diet and exercise may affect the depth of your dimples but they will not eradicate them completely.

Losing fat in the lower back region can make them more pronounced, but they can also be visible in some heavier folks whose bone structures allow for their appearance.

Building up muscle under the skin will strengthen the support system under the top layer of the epidermis; giving a smoother result. However, if your bone structure results in back dimples that that are quite prominent, changing your lifestyle won’t make them disappear forever.

The Dimples of Venus were named after Venus who was the Roman goddess of love and beauty. Normally found just above a person’s bottom, these symmetrical indentations offer great significance to those who are naturally blessed. They have always been seen as a sign of beauty. Reactions to back dimples are generally subjective as beauty is truly in the eyes of the beholder.

Although women and men both can have them, Venus Dimples seem to be an attractive trait in women. You may observe that some people have their dimples pierced and jewellery added onto them for a whimsical touch. This has become a trendy practice among women so they can accentuate their looks with low cut jeans, tank tops, short tops, or bikinis. It is not only girls who have these indentations, but guys as well. Most of the guys will be caught sweating in the gym just to tone the muscles in the rear as this is the only way to highlight the beauty marks.

Aside from signifying beauty, people with Dimples of Venus are considered extremely lucky. Possessing them is said to bring blessings and good luck. Not everyone has these though, so if you have back dimples its best to embrace nature and enjoy these little physical marks.

There are no known health risks associated with back dimples, though that part of the back is prone to exertion. However, aging and weight gain may exacerbate the appearance of back dimples making them seem more prominent. Luckily many people believe that dimples are cute and see and see them as beauty marks instead of disfiguring depressions on the surface of the epidermis.

Implications on Your Sex Life

Some people think that the dimples are indicators of good health and a mind blowing sex life. The presence of the back dimples is said to be the reason for heightened pleasure during intimacy. The dimples assist in blood circulation and because of their very ‘strategic’ placement near the pelvic area, climaxing in bed becomes easier.

Lovers like to press them and affectionately call them “thumb handles”, signifying how they hold their mates. People who want to spice up their bedroom moments with their partners do the trick with the dimples. In one online discussion forum, one of the contributors confessed to love holding on to the dimples during intimacy.

Other Purposes

Other than the claims about the dimples heightening sexual pleasure during intimacy. the Dimples serve a good purpose in surgery where they form two symmetrical indentations on the sacrum, which happens to contain a lot of veins. They are used as a landmark for finding the superior articular facets of the sacrum in spine surgery. Corset makers also use back dimples as a measuring marker around the hips for proper fitting.

Surgical Creation of the Dimples of Venus

With the advancements witnessed in cosmetic surgery, it is now almost possible to get the dream body that you wanted. Some women who aren’t naturally blessed with the Dimples of Venus are now seeking a cosmetic procedure to create dimples in their lower backs. Dr Amanda Wong-Powell has developed a ‘V-spot’ treatment to create dimples. She uses VASER liposuction in order to create the desirable shape on the back. In 2016, the procedure started at £4,900. The doctor said in an interview that the dimples are usually found naturally on the body of very sporty and athletic women, and this is why a lot of women want to go under the knife to have their V-spot done because they want to look young and fit.

The procedure takes between one and two hours and is carried out under local anaesthesia. ‘Using a short cannula (like a pencil) through a small incision less than 1cm across, the vibration and heat helps break down the fat from inside, and a suction cannula is then used to absorb the fat and sculpt the V spot area and dimples,’ Dr Wong-Powell says.

Although the procedure is not painful, afterwards in the first couple of days, you will experience aching that can be relieved by simple analgesics. The doctor said that VASER liposuction uses sound energy and is selective, so it only breaks down the fat and not the surrounding tissues and vessels – hence it involves less down-time and less trauma than traditional liposuction.

The procedure has a recovery time of around 10 days, and patients are advised to wear a compression garment to decrease the swelling for up to six weeks following the procedure. The resulting Dimples of Venus can be seen from as early as four weeks, but it can take up to 3 months to see the final effect.

Dimple of Venus Piercings

Piercings on the Dimples of Venus are also called dermals or skin anchors because they are not actual piercings. Before getting any piercing procedure, especially surface anchors (microdermals), you have to view pictures of a healed piercing that you want. You also need to find a reputable piercer who can show you their portfolio of successfully done Dimples of Venus piercings and who can walk you through the process including selection of jewellery to use.  It is important to get a piercer who meets minimum safety standards.

During the piercing process, the level of sensation one feels is relative, though, when the procedure is performed well by a professional, it should be minimal. Be sure to find out the quality of jewellery they use, as this plays an enormous role in healing.

On the flipside, you need to be aware that the dermals will most likely not stay, that they will migrate and may cause scarring. If you’re not bothered by scarring, then there’s not much to worry about.

I have a similar problem to yours. Infact I struggle to churn out new content on a regular basis.
